Prescribed Prayers specifically named in Qur’aan

Qur’aanic Verse 24.58:

24.58

Transliteration:

58. Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo liyasta/thinkumu allatheena malakat aymanukum waallatheena lam yablughoo alhuluma minkum thalatha marratin min qabli salati alfajri waheena tadaAAoona thiyabakum mina alththaheerati wamin baAAdi salati alAAisha-i thalathu AAawratin lakum laysa AAalaykum wala AAalayhim junahun baAAdahunna tawwafoona AAalaykum baAAdukum AAala baAAdin kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakumu al-ayati waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Translation:

58. O you who believe! Let those whom your right hands possess (slaves/servants) and those of you who have not attained to puberty ask permission of you three times: before the Morning Prayer, whenever you take off your clothes (for rest) at noon, and after the Evening Prayer. These are three times of privacy for you. No restriction on you or on them at other times. Some of you have to be around others. Thus does Allah make clear to you the Verses, and Allah is Knowledgeable, Wise.22

Study Note

22. Please take note that two of the ritual/prescribed prayers (Salat) are specifically named here, viz., Salat-il-Fajr and Salat-il-Eisha. The only other Salat specifically named in the Qur’aan is Salat-il-Wusta in Verse 2:238.

The above is an extract from Qur’aanic Studies Manzil IV, which will soon, inshaAllah, be published on Amazon Kindle. Manzil IMabzil II & Manzil III of the series are already published.

  1. …and the Salat on the day of gathering (Jumu’ah)is also mentioned.

    • The community salat on Friday is mentioned, but not named specifically as a separate salat other than the 3 named. The Friday salat is one of those named, but performed in coongregation.

  2. Surah 2:238: “Guard strictly your prayers (salawaat) and the Middle Prayer (Salatul Wusta)” (Surah 2:238).
Here the word “Salawaat” is plural (which means 3 or more than 3) and the Salatul Wusta.
I think this verse itself tells as about 3 (minimum)+1 salat.
since the word “middle” is used, The total no of “salawaat” should be an odd nos and other times are mentionmed in 17:78,11:114, without naming.
