Mantra for Success

Qur’aanic Verse 3.200:

3.200

Transliteration:

200. Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo isbiroo wasabiroo warabitoo waittaqoo Allaha laAAallakum tuflihoona

Translation:

200. O you who believe! Be patient, exhort patience, maintain good relations with one another and fear Allah, in order that you succeed.186

Study Note:

186. This is a veritable divine mantra for success. But, alas, there are very few Muslims in today’s world with a strong enough Faith to make use of this mantra! The Muslims wouldn’t be in the doldrums, they find themselves in, otherwise.

  1. Just to add my tow cents, I tend to think that the word “sabr” is a lot more than “patience”. If I look at the use of this word in the Qur’an, I see patience in the event of adversity and hardship but an explicit or implicit emphasis to “do something about it, to resist it, or get over it or whether it”. the concept to Sabr has another important offshoot and that is the it provides us the courage to fight against the odds in our life–be they hardships of our daily lives or be they armed resistance against oppression in a battle field. After all, in the battle field what we are doing is ‘balancing’ our potentials (Sabr) against something that we have to deal with
Also, to my mind, the “sabr” is not complacency and it is not bearing bravely anything that is imposed upon us—justly or unjustly. The Sabr, as I understand it, is ‘balancing justly and appropriately against odds’ that come barging into our back yard. A few other verses to examine: (3:125,146; 8:65,66).

    • Jazak Allahu khairan.
